Military Medal

'In the Becelaere Sector on the 24th December 1917 for gallantry and devotion to duty. During a heavy and severe bombardment Private Witters regardless of personal danger went out to attend a party of 5 men who had been hit. He carried out one of the men through this heavy bombardment and then returned to attend to the remainder who unfortunately were dead. By his action Private Witters undoubtedly saved his comrade's life. He has constantly done splendid work and has at all times showed splendid courage and set a fine example to his fellows.'
