Mentioned in Despatches 'On October 4th, 1917 near Kansas Cross north east of Ypres he collected and brought back information during very heavy shell fire. He worked throughout the day and night with untiring energy and set a splendid example to all by his gallantry and coolness. His coolness and determination on all occasions has been most marked.'
