Bar to Military Medal 'On 30th August in the operations east of Bapaume this NCO laid a line to a Battalion of his Brigade under very heavy machine gun and shell fire. It was due to his bravery and determination that the line was got through at an important time. On previous and succeeding days he worked on lines under heavy hostile fire by day and by night and it was to his gallantry and courage that the success of the
Brigade communications was largely due. At many critical times he set a splendid example to his men.'
