Wounded in action, 8 August 1917 (gun shot wound, left shoulder and back); admitted to 1st Canadian Casualty Clearing Station, 9 August 1917; transferred to No 32 Stationary Hospital, Wimereux, 10 August 1917; to England, 12 August 1917, and admitted same day to No 2 NZ General Hospital, Walton-on-Thames; transferred to NZ Convalescent Hospital, Hornchurch, 28 September 1917; discharged on furlough, 15 December 1917, to report to NZ Field Artillery Depot, Aldershot, 31 December 1917.

Found guilty, 7 January 1918, of when on Active Service being absent without leave from 2 pm, 31 December 1918, till 3.30 pm, 5 January 1918: awarded 168 hours' detention, and forfeited 6 days' pay by Royal Warrant.

Proceeded overseas to France, 16 March 1918; marched out to unit, 23 March 1918, and posted to 5th Battery.

Wounded in action (second occasion), 14 April 1918 (gun shot wound, abdomen), and admitted to 1/3 West Riding Field Ambulance; transferred to No 14 General Hospital, Wimereux, 15 April 1918; to England, 25 April 1918, and admitted same day to No 2 NZ General Hospital, Walton-on-Thames; transferred to NZ Convalescent Depot, Hornchurch, 24 May 1918.

Found guilty, 23 May 1918, of when on Active Service being absent without leave, 8-10.30 pm, 22 May: forfeited 1 day's pay gross.
