Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On the 25th August 1918, near Bapaume, when both Nos. 1 and 2 of the Lewis gun team had been wounded by the
enemy at short range, Private Williams picked up the gun and advanced firing from the hip, enabling his platoon to go on. Later he put out of action no less them four enemy machine guns and enabled the platoon to reach its objective.'
