Proceeded overseas to France, 6 September 1917; marched into NZ Infantry and General Depot, Etaples, 9 September 1917. Taken on strength of 'A' Company, 3rd Battalion, New Zealand Rifle Brigade, 17 September 1917. Wounded in action, 12 September 1917; admitted to No.1 NZ Field Ambulance, 12 October 1917, and transferred to No.44 Casualty Clearing Station the same day (gunshot wound, face); to No.14 Stationary Hospital, Boulogne, 13 October 1917; to England, 15 October 1917; to No.1 NZ General Hospital, Brockenhurst, 15 October 1917; discharged to NZ Discharge Depot, Torquay, 10 November 1917. Classified unfit by Medical Board, 14 November 1917.
