Military Medal 'For gallant conduct and devotion to duty in operations east of Ypres, 4/5th October 1917. This man carried out the duties of a Battalion Stretcher Bearer from 6 am on the 4th October 1917 to 10 pm on the 5th October 1917, under very trying conditions. He dressed and carried wounded men under heavy shell fire, and showed a splendid example to all. He worked continuously for 40 hours and responded with alacrity and cheerfulness to every call.'
