'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On the morning of the 1st October 1918, near Crevecoeur Private Watson while acting as a stretcher bearer volunteered to go forward and brought in under heavy enemy shell and machine gun fire, a wounded comrade who was in danger of falling a prisoner into enemy hands. In spite of being badly wounded when a considerable distance from our front line, Private Watson continued to drag his comrade along and eventually both reached our front line.'
