Military Medal 'For great gallantry and initiative. During the operations east of St Julien on 4/10/17, when his Section Commander had been killed, Private Watkins took command of his Lewis gun team, and led it through heavy machine-gun fire to the Blue Line,
where he covered the consolidation of his Platoon, all the while under shell fire.'
