Military Medal For great gallantry and leadership. Near La Truie Farm on 31st July this NCO displayed great courage and good leadership in the garrison of No. 2 Post, which was heavily bombarded during the assault of the 2nd Battalion Wellington Regiment on La Basse Ville. After the capture of that village, when reinforcements had been asked for by the 2nd Battalion Wellington Regiment, this NCO led up a party of 10 from his Post through the enemy barrage, and attaching himself to 2nd Lieut Nicol?s command in the front La Basse Ville Posts, which had been dangerously reduced in numbers, materially assisted that officer in repelling with bombs and bayonet a determined enemy counter attack. Throughout the engagement he displayed great courage, coolness and good leadership. Recommendation date: |
