Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During the attack on Passchendaele Ridge on 12th October 1917, when his Officers had become casualties, this NCO took charge of the Company and organised the consolidation under exceptional heavy machine gun and rifle fire. He displayed great gallantry and skill in the execution of this duty, and set a splendid example to his men. His work throughout was of the highest order.'
