Proceeded overseas to France, 1 March 1917; joined 1st Bn, Otago Infantry Regiment, in the field, 21 May 1917, and posted to 10th Company. Wounded in action, 8 June 1917 (gun shot wound, both hands); admitted to 77th Field Ambulance, 12 June 1917, and transferred to 53rd Casualty Clearing Station; to 14th General Hospital, Wimereux, 14 June 1917; to No 1 Convalescent Camp, Boulogne, 15 June 1917; to Base Depot, Etaples, 24 June 1917; rejoined Bn, in the field, 11 August 1917.
