War service: Egypt, Western Front Admitted to NZ General Hospital, Abbassia, 22 December 1915 (dysentery); listed as 'seriously ill', 1 January 1916; transferred to Aotea Convalescent Home, Heliopolis, 16 February 1916; attached on strength to Base Depot, Ghezireh, 2 March 1916. Transferred to 2nd Bn, Otago Infantry Regiment, Ismailia, 18 March 1916, and posted to 14th Company. Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, France, 9 April 1916; joined Bn, in the field, 11 June 1917. Killed in action, 12 October 1917. Buried in Sheet 28.D.9.d.80.95, 20 yards from Waterloo Farm, grave marked with 4 pegs and wire: undated report from 2nd Corps Burial Detachment; grave subsequently lost.
