Attached to strength of NZ Base Depot, Etaples, 10 December 1916. Joined 2nd Bn, Otago Infantry Regiment, in the field, 7 January 1917, and posted to 14th Company. Admitted to No 1 Field Ambulance, then No 1 Australian Casualty Clearing Station, 17 January 1917 (sick); transferred to No 7 General Hospital, St Omer, 18 January 1917. Rejoined 2nd Bn, Otago Infantry Regiment, in the field, 13 February 1917. Slightly wounded in action, 8 August 1917; remained with unit.
