Proceeded overseas to France, 10 October 1916; joined 2nd Bn, NZ Rifle Brigade, in the field, 28 November 1916, and posted to D Company, and reverted to Rifleman. Detached to Railway Construction Party, 7 January 1917; rejoined unit, 15 March 1917. Admitted to No 3 NZ Field Ambulance, 22 July 1917 (scabies), and transferred to 50th Casualty Clearing Station; rejoined unit, 2 August 1917.
