'Operations Switch Line, south east of High Wood 15th, 16th, 17th and 18th September 1916. Flers Trench and Flers Support Trench, 20th and 21st September, Grid Support Trench, north east of Flers, 1st October 1916. As Adjutant on the 2nd Battalion Canterbury Regt Lieut Walker has rendered the most valuable service. He was twice wounded during the operations, each time in the head: yet he refused to go sick and remained at his duty throughout. He has repeatedly shown great gallantry under fire, and on two occasions has taken over temporary command of Companies and Platoons when their officers have become casualties. During the last six months he has rendered invaluable service to his Battalion. He is deserving of special recognition.'
