Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty while supervising the evacuation of wounded under shell fire. On the night of the 3rd/4th October he was in charge of a Bearer Relay Post on the bank of the Canal de L'Escaut which was under extremely heavy shell fire. He continually exposed himself in supervising the evacuation of wounded and he also personally led the stretcher bearers through a
heavy barrage. On the night of 12th/13th October this NCO again distinguished himself by leading stretcher parties over roads in the vicinity of the village of Viesly and maintaining the evacuation of wounded from the forward areas despite the darkness, heavy rain and enemy shell fire.'
