London Gazette 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in the attack on Trescault Ridge on 12th September 1918. Throughout the whole day Rifleman Voss performed his
duties as a competent stretcher bearer with great gallantry and determination. Some wounded men were lying out in front of the trench where our advance was held up. In spite of heavy machine gun fire Rifleman Voss got out to these men and by his courage skill and determination succeeded in getting them in. His bravery almost certainly saved several lives and was an inspiration to all his company.'
