Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. This NCO although exhausted with long and heavy carrying worked with most consistent and untiring energy. On the 1st October 1918, near Crevecoeur after crossing the Canal L'Escaut he got an enemy Light machine-gun into action and used it with great effect on the retreating Germans inflicting heavy casualties. Later when his own gun was got into action he held on and inflicted very heavy casualties on the enemy who were counter attacking and by his gallantry and devotion to duty undoubtedly assisted largely in breaking up the attack.'
