Mentioned in Despatches 'At Delville Wood on the 15th September, 2nd Lieut Robert Forester Vial on hearing that Lieut Haughton, who had gone forward early in the morning to the front line trenches to observe, was wounded, immediately went forward under heavy fire and took over his duties, carrying them out with great coolness and ability, although wounded himself earlier in the morning, and continued to carry out his duties until again wounded on the evening of the 15th.'
