Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in charge of a Lewis machine gun team. Left alone with the gun, he dispersed an enemy attack single handed,
inflicting many casualties upon them. By his coolness and great gallantry he undoubtedly saved the lives of his comrades, besides most effectively holding up a
counter-attack at a critical moment. He set a splendid example of devotion to duty.'
