Proceeded overseas to France, 1 March 1917; taken on strength, 1st Bn, Wellington Infantry Regiment, in the field, 3 June 1917.. Wounded in action, 8 June 1917 (gun shot wound, left thigh), and admitted to 77th Field Ambulance, and then transferred same day to No 11 Casualty Clearing Station; to 58th General Hospital, 8 June 1917; to No 7 Convalescent Depot, Boulogne, 13 July 1917; to NZ Base Depot, Etaples, 19 July 1917; taken on strength, 3rd Bn, Wellington Infantry Regiment, in the field, 8 October 1917, and posted to B Company. Transferred to 1st Bn, Wellington Infantry Regiment, 30 October 1917. Wounded in action (second occasion), 30 November 1917 (gun shot wound, right arm and leg, head and left hand), and admitted to No 3 NZ Field Ambulance, and transferred same day to 3rd Canadian Casualty Clearing Station; to No 14 General Hospital, Wimereux, 2 December 1917; to England, 4 December 1917, and admitted to No 2 London General Hospital, Chelsea, 5 December 1917; transferred to No 1 NZ General Hospital, Brockenhurst, 7 February 1918. Classified 'Unfit' by Medical Board, 6 March 1918.
