Medaille Militaire (France) 'Operations south west of Rewis (capture of Marfaux) 23/7/18 and subsequent days. For gallantry and devotion to duty. This WO has during the time the Batt. has been holding the front line forward and Marfaux been charged with responsibility of seeing to supply on ammunitions and rations. On night of 26th whilst engaged in
superintending carrying of ammo and rations his party was subjected to exceptionally heavy artillery fire and his courage and disregard for his personal safety with his desire to carry out his duty was a fine example to his men and enabled the party to carry out its mission without loss. His general courage and ability has been of high order throughout these and other operations.'
