Military Medal 'Operations: British Line opposite Beaumont Hamel 5th April 1918. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On the 5th April 1918 the enemy bombarded our line very heavily. Corporal Tritt's platoon commander and the two senior NCOs, became casualties. This NCO then took command and went round his platoon
cheering and encouraging the men, and superintended the work of repairing the trenches, which in many places had been badly damaged. He showed great
steadiness and courage under heavy hostile fire, and set a very fine example to all ranks under his command.'
