Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During attack on Passchendaele Ridge on morning of 12th October 1917 and while at Calgary Grange when the enemy was heavily a shelling this ?pillbox? killing and wounding several men, Private W.G. Toy saw a man wounded in both eyes and legs lying out exposed to the fire, he immediately left the shelter of the pillbox and carried this wounded man in on
his back to safety notwithstanding the fact that shells were falling round him. It was a very gallant action.'
