Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He superintended the unloading of twelve wagon loads of ammunition at the battery position, under a very heavy enemy barrage fire which was suddenly put down on the locality. It was due to his prompt judgement and skilful handling of the situation that the work was accomplished without casualties. His energy, coolness and disregard of danger were remarkable, and averted what might have been a disaster.'
