Military Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On the 24th October 1918, during the advance between Beaudignies and Le Quesnoy, Lance Corporal Tod was sent out in charge of a patrol through the Wood of Farm du Beart. Although under heavy machine gun fire from the right flank he continued on his task of working forward until he got in touch with the unit on his left. His reports cleared up a situation which was tending to become obscure, and at one stage, when under sniping fire from his right, he, by his personal gallantry and skilful leadership, extricated his patrol from a difficult situation. Throughout, he displayed initiative of a high order and his coolness and disregard of personal danger had a splendid effect on his subordinates.'
