Military Medal 'This NCO commanded a Platoon of Taranaki Company in reserve to Wellington West Coast Company in its attack on and capture of La Basse Ville on 31st July, with a gallantry and cool leadership, he lead his command into the centre of the village and cleared it of the enemy there, meeting from time to time great resistance. His platoon suffered heavily but under his leadership went forward to the front line to
reinforce a Post during the enemy counter attack.'
