Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During the period under review [France, September-November 1918] both in the line and out, the gallantry, ability, and initiative of this warrant officer have been a fine example to themen and a great support and assistance to his company commander, to whom, on oneoccasion particularly, he gave the gretest help in collecting stragglers and reorganizing the company, under heavy fire, for a further stage of the attack.'
