Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty on 5th October 1918, near Crevecouer. During the attack on the 5th October Sergeant Thomson carried out a minor advance with great skill. He railed his men on two occasions, under intense artillery and machine gun fire, and led them to the objective, where he established a forward post and protecting flank. He remained in this isolated position for 43 hours until relieved, sending back most valuable information of enemy machine gun
posts and movement. The action of this NCO materially assisted a subsequent attack of the Battalion on 8th October. His conduct throughout the operation was of a very high order, and his cheerfulness and personal bravery set a great example to his men.'
