Military Medal 'Operations Gravenstafel: 30th September to 5th October 1917. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. Every night from September 30th till October 3rd 1917, he led his ration party through heavy artillery fire, thus keeping the front line troops constantly supplied with water and rations. He displayed great bravery and disregard for his personal safety and set a fine example to the men under his command.'
