Croix de Guerre (Belgium) 'In May 1918, in the Colincamps Sector the Battery was unexpectedly and urgently requested by the Infantry to blow out a certain enemy post. The only possible place from which the shooting could be observed was from one of our most advanced posts. Owing to shortage of wire it was found necessary to run the wire across country to the observation post so this NCO volunteered to do it, crawling across the open where he was exposed to the observation and fire of the enemy. He remained at the observation post and personally transmitted corrections to the Battery until the wire was destroyed by enemy fire. This NCO has been in the
Mortars for a considerable time and in all his work has proved himself reliable and efficient.'
