Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During the attack on the Passchendaele Ridge on 12th October 1917, this NCO displayed especially fine
leadership, handling his platoon with initiative and vigour. Under extremely heavy machine gun and rifle fire he reorganised an exposed position, caused by a platoon on his flank being shot up, and resited his consolidation to meet a threatened enemy counter attack.'
