Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry. During the attack of the New Zealand Division east of St Julien on October the 4th L/Cpl Taaffe while the advance was taking place
repeatedly rushed forward alone with his Lewis gun and covered the advance; thus materially assisting his comrades. While doing this just before reaching his objective, he was badly wounded.'
