Wounded in action, 8 August 1915 (bullet wound, left side and abdomen); admitted to HS 'Dongola', 10 August 1915; transferred to No.19 General Hospital, Alexandria, 14 August 1915; to England, 15 September 1915; to Duchess of Connaught Hospital, Taplow, 25 September 1915; discharged to furlough, 23 December 1915; marched into NZ Base Depot, Grey Towers, 14 January 1916. Rejoined 1st Battalion, Wellington Regiment, 8 June 1916.
