Finding himself the only sergeant left in his Company, he assisted his Company Commander in the advance and showed great gallantry in leading a platoon. Assisted in consolidation and displayed great courage in the face of heavy fire, exhibiting a fine example to the men whilst things were very unpleasant throughout from shell fire.'
