Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On the 8th October 1918, during operations in the vicinity of Esnes Corporal Stuart was in command of a Lewis gun section of his Company. Throughout the advance he showed great coolness in passing through an enemy barrage and when his Company was held up just South of Esnes, he immediately pushed forward with his Lewis gun, under heavy machine gun fire, and by bringing accurate fire to bear on the enemy caused them to fall back, thus enabling his Company to push forward. Throughout the advance this NCO displayed great courage and determination and set a fine example to his subordinates.'
