Military Medal 'At Ypres from 21st to 23rd October 1917 this NCO displayed the greatest bravery and devotion to duty. While his Company was holding the front line posts he carried out very important patrols. On night of 21st he volunteered for and carried out a reconnaissance of the enemy's wire under very difficult circumstances, and brought back a reliable and most important report. Again on night of 22nd he volunteered for and carried out over very difficult ground and under continued fire a reconnaissance of the Ravereke River, returning with an exhaustive report. Throughout he showed the very greatest courage and most exceptional ability.'
