Military Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On the 23rd October 1918, in the operations near Salesches, Private Stuart was No 1 of a Lewis gun. An enemy machine gun opened fire from a farm at close quarters, and Private Stuart dashed forward with his gun to a position from which he could fire. He was wounded in the act, but he brought his gun into action and silenced the enemy, and later refused to leave until he was ordered to the regimental aid post by his Officer. His gallant act saved many casualties and his example of fortitude was an inspiration to everyone who saw him.'
