Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and fine leadership during operations 9th to 12th September 1918, near Gouzeaucourt Wood. Early in the evening of the 11th he organised and led forward a bombing party against the enemy at Dead Man's Corner. He bombed up the sap leading to it and effected an entry killing the enemy garrison. He made his way towards the Battalion on the left but was attacked by the enemy from several directions and driven out of it, but he succeeded in withdrawing his party of six to our lines without casualties. His work round this corner of the wood was, throughout the operations exceptionally fine, supervising
and leading parties regardless of his own personal safety.'
