Mentioned in Despatches 'On the Somme this NCO did very excellent work. On one occasion, during an attack, after his Platoon Commander had been wounded he took command of his
Platoon and carried on the work of consolidating until another Officer was sent up. He has done consistently good work since joining the Battalion in October 1915. He is a brave and cool fighter.'
