Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On 29th September 1918 at Bon Avis Ridge he was cut off from his platoon and found himself alone with a number of the enemy in front of him. They called on him to surrender but he continued firing at them as they advanced on him. Finally he captured a German and succeeded in returning with him to our lines.'
