Military Medal 'Operations: Between Messines and Warneton 14th and 15th June 1917. This NCO who was in charge of a Lewis gun section led his men through the enemy barrage
and when fired upon by enemy machine gun, immediately came into action and forced the enemy to retire. Later when his platoon was held up by machine gun
and rifle fire he on his own initiative pushed round to the enemy's flank under very heavy fire and again brought his gun into action. His cool headed and brave leadership undoubtedly materially assisted in the strong point being captured.'
