Ex 3rd Reinforcements War service: Egypt, Western Front Embarked Wellington, 4 March 1916; disembarked Suez, 8 April 1916, and taken on strength, Mounted Training Regiment, Moascar. Transferred to 2nd Infantry Brigade, 2 May 1916. Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, France, 20 May 1916. Joined 2nd Bn, in the field, 21 June 1916. Wounded in action, 1 October 1916 (gun shot wound, left thigh), and admitted to XX corps collecting Station; transferred to No 1 Canadian General Hospital, Etaples, 2 October 1916; to No 6 Convalescent Depot, 12 October 1916; discharged to Base Depot, 30 December 1916; to Base Depot, Etaples, 5 January 1917. Admitted to 24th General Hospital, Etaples, 9 March 1917 (measles); discharged to duty, 19 March 1917. Attached to NZ Base Depot, 21 March 1917; marched out to Segregation Camp, 8 April 1917; rejoined unit, in the field, 3 June 1917. Appointed Lance Corporal, 4 August 1917.
