Relinquished rank of Temporary Lance Corporal. Proceeded overseas to France, 6 July 1917; joined 3rd Bn, NZ Rifle Brigade, in the field, 9 Augusat 1917, and posted to D Company. Reported missing, 12 October 1917. Court of Enquiry, 27 April 1918, concluded: 'Missing for over six months. No further evidence forthcoming. Finding: Killed in action, 12 October 1917.'
