Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During the attack beyond Biefvillers on the 25th August 1918, Private Snowden showed wonderful dash and the greatest courage as No. 1 of a Lewis gun team. When his platoon was held up by machine gun fire he rushed forward to some cover within 20 yards of the enemy and opened fire with his gun, despite the fire of two enemy machine guns whose bullets were at times leading within three inches of his head. Private Snowden killed one enemy gunner and dispersed both gun teams thus enabling the guns to be captured. His conduct was a splendid example to his comrades and his work enabled the advance to proceed.'
