Military Medal 'Operations Gravenstafel - 30th September to 5th October 1917. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. As Company Runner near St Jean on the 30th September 1917, he carried messages to detached posts near Aviatik under a heavy barrage, a thick mist making it very difficult to keep direction; and although slightly wounded he remained on duty. His absolute disregard for personal safety and his example greatly stimulated and encouraged his comrades.'
