Embarked Wellington, 30 December 1916; disembarked Devonport, England, 3 March 1917, and marched in to Sling Camp.

Taken on strength, 3rd Bn, Otago Infantry Regiment, Codford, 3 April 1917, and posted to 8th Company.

Proceeded overseas to France, 28 May 1917.

Transferred to New Zealand Rifle Brigade, Abeele, 20 February 1918; joined 4th Bn, in the field, 10 April 1918.

Wounded in action, 22 May 1918 (gun shot wounds, multiple: right arm and right hip), and admitted to No 3 NZ Field Ambulance and then to Casualty Clearing Station. Transferred to England, and admitted to No 1 NZ General Hospital, Brockenhurst, 1 June 1918; transferred to NZ Convalescent Hospital, Hornchurch, 2 September 1918; discharged, 4 October 1918, to report to NZ Command Depot, Codford.

Commenced return to New Zealand on board HT 'Carpentaria', 20 May 1919; discharged, 16 June 1919.
