Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in the field on 26th March 1918 north east of Mailly Maillet. During the attack on positions in advance of the chalk pit Cpl Slater had charge of a section and met with very stubborn resistance. In one instance he rushed a section of trench with his section though the enemy were much stronger. By his appreciation of the situation and strong determination he overcame the enemy killing the garrison and captured an enemy machine gun. During the whole of the operation he proved himself a very competent leader of men.'
