Source: London Gazette Date: Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry on the 9th August, 1915, on the Gallipoli Peninsula, when he was entrusted with an important message, which had to be conveyed under a very heavy and continuous fire. Although seriously wounded, he managed, with great difficulty and suffering, to successfully deliver it. His bravery and devotion to duty were most marked.'
